How To Get Kids Involved in the Super Bowl Festivities

Super Bowl is this weekend and if the kids are too little or not really excited, we’ve got everything you’ll need to make your Super Bowl a success. Yes, the little ones can get into the spirit and participate in the festivities. Here’s a rundown of what you’ll need.

Get Into The “Crafty” Spirit

First, start off by preparing some fun crafts for the big day. Not only does it help keep the kids busy through out the week, but they’ll be so excited to see their work the day of! Make a run to the craft store for the following:

Popsicle sticks

  • Cardstock
  • Construction paper
  • Foam paper
  • String

Banners

Pick out construction paper in your team’s colors and cut long strips. Use a glue stick and with the strip of paper create a circle and glue the end so it’s complete. Take another strip and loop it through your first circle, create a new circle and glue the end. So on and so forth and you’ll have a really fun themed banner.

Flags

Use construction paper and cut triangles. Glue the side of the triangle to a popsicle stick. Leave room for holding, and decorate the rest of the triangle with your team logo! The kids will have a blast waiving their flags on Super Bowl Sunday.

Mini Foam Fingers

You can follow this tutorial from Frog Prince Paperie to make really cute foam fingers. All you’ll need is some cardstock to trace the finger cut out to make a template. Use it to trace onto the foam paper and cut it out with scissors. Using a hot glue gun, you can glue the sides together leaving the bottom open. You can leave it open for the little ones to stick onto their hand or add a popsicle stick for holding.

DIY Snack Bowls

Cut out 2 footballs on brown construction paper. Match up two of the football shapes, and while holding them together, punch holes along the bottom, about 1/2 inch apart. Use string lace up the holes you punched and fill it with your child’s favorite snack.

Make Fun Finger Foods

Kids sometimes will complain about food. It can be hard to keep up with what they’re eating and not eating. However, kids will sometimes LOVE anything you give them if it’s presented in a fun way. Use the Super Bowl to make some fun game day snacks. You could even sneak in some healthy veggies ;)

Mini Hot Dogs

Hot dogs can be a go-to party food. There are so many ways you can incorporate it into your Super Bowl menu. For the kiddos, try making pigs in a blanket. If can use regular hot dogs and cut them into smaller pieces. Take them and place them into a triangle of crescent dough.  Roll them up and bake in the oven. If you’re making lots of other foods it might just be easier to buy the premade ones.

For the adults at the party you could provide regular hot dogs and create a DIY station. Include favorite toppings like sauerkraut, chili, relish, and cheese.

Bacon Wrapped Bread Sticks

All foods taste better on a stick, right? A super easy but very delicious recipes. Use ¼ cup of chili powder and ¼ brown sugar and combine. Mix it all together and roll each piece of bacon in the mixture. Wrap each piece of bacon around a plain breadstick and bake in the oven on temperature 350 degrees. Let them make until the bacon is fully cooked and crisp. You may need to turn the breadsticks on occasion to make sure it’s cooked through. Let cool and enjoy!

Nacho Cups

There are SO many good uses for wonton wrappers. This recipe is a fan favorite. Nachos are usually a game time snack but can get kind of messy.

Use wonton wrappers and place one on the bottom of a cupcake tin, place a small amount of taco meat and then layer with another wonton wrapper. This time add a layer of refried beans and cheese, add another wonton wrapper and then another layer of the taco meat. Place the cupcake pan in the oven and make until the wontons are crispy. You can top these cupcake nachos with your favorite toppings like salsa or guacamole.

Game Time

When the game starts, try to include the kids in the action. To keep them interested in the game — try to give them their own game! Have them keep track of field goals, try to guess the final score of the game, include them in the commercial fun! You could also print out some football themed coloring sheets and have them color while watching.

We hope you enjoy your Super Bowl!
